PAL (Phase Alternating Line) is encoding system for analog color TV. It was alternative standard for NTSC system used in North America in the 1950’s. PAL was invented to overcome several weaknesses of NTSC encoding format.

When You Can Get in Trouble?

Several “standards” are never good. They cause confusion and a lot of headache for technicians. You might run into problems as well. For instance, you buy a spy camera that uses PAL camera system and separately order NTSC DVR and you try to make it work, you may get nothing but a black screen. So keep in mind, to avoid problems, always pair two systems with the same format, PAL cameras with PAL systems/DVR’s, and NTSC with analog devices.
